Forever and Always
If you play these games we’re both going to lose, I still miss who I thought he was
This is the only song about a guy, that Taylor Swift has ever fully explained, and one of the very few songs to have 2 secret messages; one for the normal version, and one for the piano version. Taylor wrote this song about Joe Jonas, just before the album track-list had to be finalised in 2008, just as the relationship started to crumble. This is reflected in the first secret message. Taylor naturally being bitter about the relationship ending, talked about it on Ellen. She received a lot of criticism for this, and in my opinion, is probably a large contributor to the reason why she wont talk about male song subjects any more. This song is also thought to have sparked the Jonas Brothers song ‘Much Better’, in which Camilla Belle is compared to Taylor Swift as a girlfriend. Joe Jonas and Camilla Belle dated not long after he and Taylor split.
"It’s about watching somebody fade away in a relationship. They said they were going to be with you forever, that they loved you, and then something changed in the relationship and you don’t know what it is, but you’re watching them slowly drift."- Los Angeles Times, October 26th, 2008
Taylor said that, during her 2009 fearless tour, when she sings the song, she still feels emotional and vulnerable during the sad part of the song.
Conclusion: Anyone who claims this song is about someone other than Joe Jonas, knows nothing.
